"Who is like the LORD our God, the One who sits enthroned on high..."
"Who has ascended into the heavens and then come back down?
Who has collected the winds in the palm of His hand?
Who has wrapped up the vast oceans in His coat?
Who has plotted the ends of the earth and then fashioned them?
What is His name?
What is His son's name?
Do you know? Indeed, you do."
- Agur, son of Jakeh. (Proverbs 30:4)
Who is praised by Choirs of angels
Surrounded with awesome beingsIn an orchestra of mighty roaring waters
Who is seated on a sapphire throne
Yet his feet are planted with the poor and needy of the earth
Who gleams like electron set on fire
Yet makes his table with cripple beggars
Whose reign goes out beyond the heavens and earth
Yet wraps his justice up in mercy
Covering our sin and healing our woundedness
With His very own blood
He spilled as a ransom to have our hearts
Agur writes in Proverbs 30:1-3 that he is weary and spent. Feeling "dumb as an ox," Agur came with a child like curiosity and pondered the vastness of God. While we can only grasp glimpses of His incredible beauty, pondering His beauty is a feast for our souls that will fill and refresh our spirits.
To me, the most beautiful aspects of Jesus is His nearness. He intimately knows each one of us and loves us. He guides our lives, freely giving us direction and wisdom to live fully. Below is a poem I wrote some years ago when speaking to Him about some struggles I was having.
Don't look to receive, but to give
this is the way to really live
Don't count the ones who give you thanks
remember the lepers - only 1 in the ranks
You will not be treated any different than I
Don't count on glory because that's not why
I gave my life and did it all
not for the thanks, but for the call
A call to love, a call to grace
A call to save those who desire to seek my face
To give life is why I was here
Look for this, my precious dear.
