“Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you saints and apostles and prophets, for God has given judgment for you against her!” (Rev. 18:20)

Jeremiah 51:6-10, 60-64
“Flee from the midst of Babylon, let everyone save his life! Be not cut off in her punishment, for this is the time of the Lord's vengeance, the repayment he is rendering her. Babylon was a golden cup in the Lord's hand, making all the earth drunken; the nations drank of her wine; therefore the nations went mad. Suddenly Babylon has fallen and been broken; wail for her! Take balm for her pain; perhaps she may be healed. We would have healed Babylon, but she was not healed. Forsake her, and let us go each to his own country, for her judgment has reached up to heaven and has been lifted up even to the skies. The Lord has brought about our vindication [righteousness]; come, let us declare in Zion the work of the Lord our God.” (Jer. 51:6-10)

“Jeremiah wrote in a book all the disaster that should come upon Babylon, all these words that are written concerning Babylon. And Jeremiah said to Seraiah: 'When you come to Babylon, see that you read all these words, and say, 'O Lord, you have said concerning this place that you will cut it off, so that nothing shall dwell in it, neither man nor beast, and it shall be desolate forever.' When you finish reading this book, tie a stone to it and cast it into the midst of the Euphrates, and say, 'Thus shall Babylon sink, to rise no more, because of the disaster that I am bringing upon her, and they shall become exhausted.'” (Jer. 51:60-64)

Revelation 18:1-8, 21-24
“After this I saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, and the earth was made bright with his glory. And he called out with a mighty voice, 'Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! She has become a dwelling place for demons, a haunt for every unclean spirit, a haunt for every unclean bird, a haunt for every unclean and detestable beast. For all nations have drunk the wine of the passion of her sexual immorality, the kings of the earth have committed immorality with her, and the merchants of the earth have grown rich from the power of her luxurious living.' Then I heard another voice from heaven saying, 'Come out of her, my people, lest you take part in her sins, lest you share in her plagues; for her sins are heaped high as heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities. Pay her back as she herself has paid back others, and repay her double for her deeds; mix a double portion for her in the cup she mixed. As she glorified herself and lived in luxury, so give her a like measure of torment and mourning, since in her heart she says, 'I sit as a queen, I am no widow and mourning I shall never see.' For this reason her plagues will come in a single day, death and mourning and famine, and she will be burned up with fire; for mighty is the Lord God who has Judged her.” (Rev. 18:2-8)

“Then a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea saying, 'So will Babylon the great city be thrown down with violence, and will be found no more; and the sound of harpists and musicians, of flute players and trumpeters, will be heard in you no more, and a craftsman of any craft will be found in you no more, and the sound of the mill will be heard in you no more, and the light of a lamp will shine in you no more, and the voice of the bridegroom and bride will be heard in you no more, for your merchants were the great ones of the earth, and all the nations were deceived by your sorcery. And in her was found the blood of prophets and of saints, and of all who have been slain on earth.” (Rev. 18:21-24)

“Hallelujah! For the Lord, God Almighty reigns.... worthy is the Lamb, worthy is the Lamb, You are holy!” Sings in the background

Babylon falling is also mentioned by the second angel (of three) messengers in Revelation 14:8. Isaiah prophesies about the fall of Babylon and its utter destruction in Isaiah 13-14, and 21. And it is also mentioned with the seventh bowl of God's wrath in Revelation 16:19.

As one article notes about Babylon falling in Revelation 18 and Jeremiah 51, it has similarities to Sodom and Gomorrah where the people of God were called out before the destruction of the city. (1)

The Destruction of Sodom
And the men [two angels] said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place: For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the LORD; and the LORD hath sent us to destroy it. . . .

And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city. And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the LORD being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city. And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, Escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed. . . .

The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar. Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven. . . .

And Abraham got up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the LORD: And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace. (Gen. 19:12-28)

In Isaiah 13:19-22, Isaiah proclaims, “And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the splendor and pomp of the Chaldeans, will be like Sodom and Gomorrah when God overthrew them. It will never be inhabited or lived in for all generations; no Arab will pitch his tent there; no shepherds will make their flocks lie down there. But wild animals will lie down there, and their houses will be full of howling creatures; there ostriches will dwell, and there wild goats will dance. Hyenas will cry in its towers, and jackals in the pleasant places; its time is close at hand and its days will not be prolonged.”

Scofield Reference Notes on Revelation 18:2 mention that Babylon, meaning “confusion” is often referenced by prophets in a symbolic sense. It states, “Two "Babylons" are to be distinguished in the Revelation: ecclesiastical babylon, which is apostate Christendom, headed up under the Papacy; and political babylon, which is the Beast's confederated empire, the last form of Gentile world-dominion. Ecclesiastical Babylon is "the great whore" Rev 17:1 and is destroyed by political Babylon Rev 17:15-18 that the beast may be the alone object of worship. 2Th 2:3,4 Rev 13:15. The power of political Babylon is destroyed by the return of the Lord in glory. (See "Armageddon,") Rev 16:14 19:17” (2)

One article notes, "In 1851, James White wrote: 'The woman, which is the great city, called Babylon, symbolizes the fallen apostate churches'.... J. N. Andrews similarly defined Babylon as being 'all the corrupt religious bodies which ever have existed, or which exist at the present time, united to the world, and sustained by the civil power,'” (3)

This article refers to the Seventh-day Adventists Encyclopedia which describes Symbolic Babylon as,
“"...Adultery is a common OT metaphor for apostate religion.... The revelator declares that Babylon has "fallen" (Rev 14:8; 18:2), has seduced "the kings of the earth" to commit fornication with her (ch 17:2), has enticed 'the inhabitants of the earth' to become 'drunk with the wine of her fornication' (chs 17:2; 19:2), and has deceived the nations with her 'sorceries' (ch 18:23). He represents her as 'drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus' (chs 17:5, 6; 18:24; 19:2). He sees her 'sins' as consisting of pride and arrogance (chs 17:4; 18:7, 16), defiance of God, and the persecution of His people on earth (cf. chs 16:19; 17:6; 18:24), and an illicit alliance with the political powers of earth (chs 17:2,3; 18:9). He notes that 'her sins' eventually reach 'unto heaven,' and the time comes for God to judge her (chs 16:19; 18:5,6; 19:2). God therefore summons His people to leave Babylon, in order to avoid complicity in her 'sins,' and the 'plagues' He is about to visit upon her (ch 18:4)....

In Hebrew, Bab-ilu was disparagingly associated with the word balal, 'to confuse' --a reminder that God had confused the speech of the Babel builders (Gen 11:9)....From the time of its founding by Nimrod (Gen 10:9, 10; 11:1-9), Babylon was characterized by disbelief in the true God and defiance of His will. Its tower was a monument to apostasy, and a citadel of rebellion against Him. Isaiah identifies Lucifer as king of Babylon (Is 14:4, 12-14), and implies that Satan made Babylon the center and agent of his master plan to secure control of the human race, even as God purposed to work through Jerusalem to accomplish His plan for this world....” (4)

Rev 18:5, "For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities" reminds one of the Tower of Babel (5)

The Tower of Babel
“ [The families of Noah] were the nations divided in the earth after the flood. And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar. And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.” (Gen. 10:32 - 11:9)

In building the tower of Babel, the people were one, all with one language. Revelation 17:13 says of the ten kings (ten horns of the beast) which Babylon the great, mother of prostitutes sat upon, “are of one mind, and they hand over their power and authority to the beast.” They are in unity in making war against the Lamb (Rev. 17:14).

As one article notes, “the sons of Ham and Nimrod decided to undertake a work that would insure their own salvation. They sought to build a mighty tower that would save them from the destructive power of any flood that Jehovah might bring upon them.” The article states, “Every false religion of earth has been founded upon that Babel principle of self-righteousness and self-salvation.” (6)

"The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?" (Dan 4:30)

Another article writes about the judgment (seventh bowl of God's wrath) against symbolic Babylon -the great prostitute who said in heart in Revelation 18:7b “I sit as queen; I am no widow, and mourning I shall never see” the following:
“ I sit as a queen and death comes to her; I am not a widow and mourning comes to her; she lived in luxury and famine comes to her. She gets the double portion from her own cup v6. God uses the beast and ten kings to judge her, they will eat her flesh and burn her with fire, 17:16 (Zec 9:4, Isa 47:9). In Lev 21:9 the punishment for a priests daughter being a prostitute was to be burned in the fire. Finally note that however powerful Babylon is the Lord God who judges her (as shown by the angel with great authority in verse 1) is mightier than her. “ (7)

“I believe we'll live for ever, you and I... You and I will never die. We'll live forever” sings in the background.

As another article notes, “In the books of Ezra and Nehemiah we find [God] calls [his people] to come out of historic Babylon. Some did and they formed a "new" Jerusalem. Thus we have the motif for the fallen Babylon in this chapter followed in the next by the New Jerusalem coming down from God.” (8)

In Revelation 18:19, at the destruction of Babylon, the kings, merchants, shipmasters and seafearing men who had committed immorality with her lamented. They “threw dust on their heads as they wept and mourned, crying out, 'Alas, alas, for the great city where all who had ships at sea grew rich by her wealth! For in a single hour she has been laid to waste. Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you saints and apostles and prophets, for God has given judgment for you against her!”

“Tears of joy and tears of shame are washed forever in Jesus' name... Healing rain is falling down, healing rain is falling down, I'm not afraid.. so let it fall” sings in the background.

John goes on with this prophesy in Revelation 19:
Rejoicing over Babylon falling:
“After this I heard what seemed to be the loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, crying out, 'Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God, for his judgments are true and just; for he has judged the great prostitute who corrupted the earth with her immorality and has avenged on her the blood of his servants.' Once more they cried out, 'Hallelujah! The smoke from her goes up forever and ever.'...

The Marriage Supper of the Lamb
Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out, 'Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and exult and give him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure' -for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints. And the angel said to me, 'Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.'...

Then I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has the name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.

Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and with a loud voice he called to all the birds that fly directly overhead, 'Come, gather for the great supper of God, to eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all men, both free and slave, both small and great.'

And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies gathered to make war against him who was sitting on the horse and against his army. And the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who in its presence had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur. And the rest were slain by the sword that came from the mouth of him who was sitting on the horse, and all the birds were gorged with their flesh.”

In Revelation 20-22, John finishes this by prophesying that after the marriage supper of the Lamb, there is
- a thousand years of freedom from the deceiver,
- the defeat of Satan, and then
- the Great White Throne separating those found in the book of life from those who are not. Then,
- a new heaven and earth
- the new Jerusalem coming down from heaven.
- finally, it ends with us living in the glory of the Lord, seeing His face and reigning with Him forever (Rev. 22:4-5).

“Oh, to be a friend of God is all that I desire, all I want is to be faithful. All I want is You.” sings.

Lord, You are my source of life. Thank you that You never leave me or forsake me. As I look at the words, “Surely I am coming soon” (Rev. 22:20) my heart both leaps with joy and is afraid. I am so grateful to know the end of the story – I will one day see You face to face. Please help me to be faithful to You in the here and now. Let every day that I live on this earth tell You I love You and bring You glory.

Lord, as I ponder in my heart Revelation 19, the fall of Babylon and the the great marriage feast, I am lost in wonder of what they really look like and who You are. Bring forth Your purposes. My heart rejoices in You.

Mike Bickle, in an article about the this hour writes that there is a crisis among many churches across America:
He states that there is new wave of confusion that is "systematically seducing young adults into deception. Sincere believers, once ablaze for Jesus, are being allured into compromise of biblical truths and practices. This theological crisis is emerging across America causing many to be unable to discern between truth and deception (1 Tim. 4:1-3). Though this movement espouses works of compassion and justice it’s followers are unaware of the true danger of this new kind of “Christianity”. The Scriptures are clear that at the end of the age many will fall away and depart from the faith in the midst of crisis, fear, offense, and deception (Mt. 24:9-13; Lk. 21:26; 2 Thes. 2:3; 1 Tim. 4:1-2; 2 Tim. 3:1-7; 4:3-5; 2 Pet. 2:1-3).

The stark truth remains; there is no amount of ministry activity that can “balance out” the profound spiritual compromises that many are embracing. They are doing more and more in the name of justice and compassion, but less and less in the name of Jesus. In the name of tolerance they are settling for politically correct theology that trivializes Jesus’ glory. Works of compassion and justice must flow from allegiance to Jesus and His Word or they are actually in opposition to the Lordship of Christ.

The greatest revival in America’s history is coming even as our nation stands on such precarious footing. The onslaught of darkness has spanned from our classrooms to our boardrooms, from courtrooms, to our bedrooms. Confusion is pouring forth from many pulpits as well as from the halls of Washington. It is time for the uncompromising voice of forerunners to speak clearly in the midst of this confusion. Yes, it is time to draw a line in the sand and to take a bold stand for truth.

Today’s hollow programs, prayerlessness, and preaching of a false gospel of cheap grace will not prepare believers for the coming revival of glory nor the encroaching storm of darkness. There is a great need for the prophetic voice of forerunners who will speak with clarity into the confusion.

The Spirit is preparing forerunners from many streams in the Body of Christ worldwide. The forerunner calling is not reserved for the elite; it is available to anyone who wants it...

Forerunners will imitate the lifestyle of John and the apostles as they pray, fast, and go deep in the Word, while at the same time winning the lost, healing the sick, making disciples, church planting, and operating in the power of the Spirit to meet the needs of people. As they proclaim the Word and do the works of the kingdom, they glorify Jesus and deliver the oppressed; by the very same activity they are being prepared for even more in the years ahead." (9)

"My dear friends,
not every spirit is to be trusted,
but test the spirits to see whether they are from God,
for many false prophets are at large in the world.
This is the proof of the spirit of God:
any spirit which acknowledges Jesus Christ, come in human nature,
is from God,
And every spirit which does not acknowledg Jesus
is not from God,
But is the spirit of the Antichrist,whose coming you have heard of;
[the wicked spirit] is already at large in the world.
(1 John 4:1-3, NJB)" 10
